Embracing positive psychology and coaching principles

"By celebrating diversity and inclusivity we help to improve the wellbeing of all healthcare workers. When we thrive, everyone benefits. Our patients deserve it. We deserve it."

Caring for Carers - Doctors' Mess Zoom Call

Why a Doctors’ Mess?

Everyone has a need to connect, particularly at a time of unprecedented change. We provide a safe, positive, confidential, energising place - to share, unload and reignite. Not all doctors have a place or team they feel supported by and connected to.

We run the Doctors Mess as highly interactive workshops with small break out groups on Zoom. We embrace positive psychology and coaching principles: equality, confidentiality, inclusivity and a belief in the resourcefulness of the NHS workforce.

We are committed to having and valuing a diverse workforce.

We welcome any Doctor with a current GMC number in the UK, from foundation to retirement, in both primary and secondary care.

What does it give to participants?

  • A time efficient regular opportunity to meet (virtually) with a small group of peers, facilitated by a medical educationalist in a safe and confidential space ( 1 hour with CPD)
  • A welcoming place/ team for those with no team or a team they feel excluded from.
  • Time to think, talk, share
  • This is for the participants own benefit as so many have had losses personally it also improves patient care. All the self-care skills are readily transferable to colleagues and patients. So many people are struggling, both health care workers and their patients.
  • We run highly interactive workshops with small break out groups on Zoom. We teach leadership by modelling inclusivity, listening and coaching and we use positive psychology, kindness, compassion and self-care as our bedrock.
